Ritu Welcomes Fall with Sunday Suppers and New Weeknight Menu Offerings

San Francisco, Calif. (September 13, 2018) – Chef Rupam Bhagat of Ritu Indian Soul Food, a critically acclaimed Mission District restaurant, is pleased to announce new seasonal offerings that mark the beginning of fall. Special events include a monthly Sunday Supper, a family-style dinner prepared by Chef Rupam Bhagat and his mom, and four new weeknight menus: Kati Roll TuesdaysKebab & Beer WednesdaysThursday Parathas, and a Late-Night Happy Hour. Inspired by the vibrant cuisine of India and Chef Bhagat’s childhood in Mumbai, Ritu evokes true Indian hospitality with its warm, inviting atmosphere, and soulful and seasonal cooking.

Sunday Supper with Sudha Bhagat  
Sunday, September 23
$40 per guest, exclusive of tax, gratuity and beveragesRitu family style dinner

Every fourth Sunday of the month, Ritu will host Sunday Suppers featuring family recipes from  Chef Bhagat’s mother, Sudha Bhagat. Guests are invited to enjoy an exclusive three-course menu prepared by Chef Bhagat and his greatest source of culinary inspiration, his mom. Served family style, each course will feature two dishes, one prepared by each of them, just like back home. The menu features Bhagat family recipes, combining the flavor and soulfulness of Indian cuisine with the modern techniques and seasonal bounty of California.

September’s Sunday Supper menu will feature an appetizer of toasted rice flakes with Mumbai trail mix.

First course: Hara Bhara Kebab with spinach, paneer, potato fritters with chutney (prepared by Sudha); Shammi Kebab with pan roasted lamb, lentil patties and egg (prepared by Chef Rupam).

Second course: Onion Mustard Braised Fish (prepared by Sudha); Pepper Chicken with rice and lentil crepe (prepared by Chef Rupam); Green Pea Pulao, Braised Green Moong Dal, and eggplant with peanuts. 

Dessert: Malpua a fried banana pancake with rabri (prepared by Sudha) and Caramelized White Chocolate Pot De Crème with tapioca and pickled peaches (prepared by Chef Rupam).

Menu items are subject to change based on availability. Vegetarian options are available upon request.
Kati Roll Tuesdays 
Available on Tuesdays beginning September 18

Every Tuesday guests are invited to choose from a remarkable spread of Kati Rolls, a signature dish of Ritu’s sister, the popular Dum food truck launched by Chef Bhagat four years ago. This popular street food from Calcutta is made with house-made paratha (an unleavened Indian flatbread) wrapped around house-made stuffing and garnishes. The following rolls are served two per order.

  • Chicken Kati Roll – Chili Vinegar Marinated Chicken, Pickled onions, Cilantro, Egg, Paratha ($15)
  • Paneer Kati Roll – Paneer Masala, Pickled Onion, Paratha ($16)
  • Lamb Kati Roll – Braised Lamb Keema, Pickled Onion, Cilantro, Egg, Paratha ($18)
  • Pork Vindaloo Kati Roll – Chili, Vinegar Braised, Pork, Pickled Onion, Egg, Paratha($17)
  • Coconut Shrimp Kati Roll – Coconut Curry, Pickled onion, Cilantro, Egg, Paratha($18)
  • Palak Kati Roll – Creamed Spinach, Potato, Pickled Onion, Cilantro, Paratha ($14)

 

Kebab & Beer Wednesdays
Available on Wednesdays beginning September 19

There are very few things that taste better than a meat or vegetable cooked in the tandoor and combined with a chilled glass of beer. A longstanding tradition in India, guests at Ritu can now start their Wednesday night out with the following kebabs, and $2 off any beer with a purchase of one kebab.

  • Fenugreek Chicken Kebab ($12)
  • Chili Tamarind Glazed Pork Belly ($13)
  • Broccoli, Chili Garlic Lime Dressing ($11)
  • Lamb T Bone Kebab ($15)
  • Shammi Kebab – Pan Roasted Lamb and Lentil Kebab ($14)
  • Coconut Shrimp Kebab ($14)

Patrons can enjoy a tasting of three kebabs for $20.

Thursday Parathas 
Available Thursdays beginning September 20

On Thursdays, guests can enjoy one last motivator before the weekend with an assortment of parathas. An Indian version of the Salvadoran pupusa, parathas are stuffed flatbread made with whole wheat flour brushed with butter and served with pickles and onion. Options at Ritu include:

  • Broccoli Cauliflower and cheese Paratha ($8)
  • Lamb Keema Paratha ($9)
  • Pork Chicharon Paratha ($9)
  • Chicken Paratha ($8)
  • Green Pea Paratha ($8)
  • Spinach and Paneer Paratha ($9)

 

Late Night Happy Hour 
Available Fridays beginning September 21
What’s better than Ritu’s regular weekday happy hour? A late happy hour after a long work week. From 9-10 p.m. on Fridays, guests can delight in a late-night happy hour featuring drink specials:

  • Wine by the Glass ($7)
  • Wine by the Bottle ($35)
  • Beer ($6)

Ritu is open for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday for all-day dining.
