- I first knew I wanted to be in PR when: Honestly, it sort of just happened. I learned about PR via my marketing classes, I thought it sounded interesting and I ended up with an internship the next summer. I guess you could say the rest is history!
- My dream client: A professional baseball team.
- If I weren’t in PR, I would be: Working as a sportscaster, or traveling the world and blogging about my adventures, the different cultures, amazing food, and interesting people that I encounter along the way. It’d also be cool to be a “Flavor Guru” – a food scientist who comes up with new Ben & Jerry’s flavors.
- Your biggest PR horror story: I am SO grateful to say, I have nothing to put here, and I hope it stays that way for a long time.
- My first job was: Assuming my countless number of lemonade/milkshake/painted rock/heart shaped leaf stands do not count, my first “real-job” was working at a flip-flop store in Orange County. It turned out to be a really unique experience. Since it was their first brick and mortar location, I assisted with the complete set up and design of the new store, and to an extent helped influence how things were run. As an aspiring entrepreneur, it was a great look into what running a business feels like.
- My biggest accomplishment so far: Packing up my life into suitcases and moving halfway across the world to pursue a master’s degree. It was a tough journey, but also the best decision I have ever made.
- Favorite social media platform: Instagram, no contest. Follow me! @sydneyteske
- My biggest pet peeve is: Rude people. Frankly, there’s no reason or excuse for it. As well as people who chew with their mouth open. Just, ew.
- Best movie I ever saw: Does the entire Harry Potter series count? Or The Blind Side. I could watch either of those every single day and never get tired of them.
- Why I love my job, in three words: So. Much. Food.
- I’m secretly terrified of: Not so secretly sharks, large bodies of water, and boats that take me into the middle of said large bodies of water. Secretly, pigeons and bees.
- I’m embarrassed to admit it, but I watch: Anything and everything on Bravo.
- Favorite place I’ve traveled to: Santorini, Greece and Lisbon, Portugal
- If I could go only go to one place before I die, I would go: Everywhere and anywhere. Please do not make me choose!
- If you could have dinner with anybody, alive or dead, who would it be: Ivanka Trump – not politically motivated, she’s just a girlboss and I would love to sit down and talk about everything she’s accomplished. I mean, she is the Executive VP of Trump Hotels, owns her own clothing line, and is a mother of three. What an incredible role model she is for women trying to break through the glass ceiling in the business world.
- EBooks or physical books: One of my favorite activities is perusing bookstores and buying used books. I love finding notes, stories, or doodles on the pages from previous owners. Also, nothing beats the smell or feeling of cracking open a new book. In other words, physical. Always physical.
- Favorite thing about the Bay Area? I have lived here for (almost) five years and still have so much to see and do.
- Top 3 most played songs on my iPod: Yeah! by Usher, Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood and Somebody Like You by Keith Urban
- When I’m not working: I’m usually wandering around the city looking for new places to explore. When I’m feeling lazy, you can find me reading, baking, or eating frozen yogurt. I also play on a women’s soccer team, and love running through Golden Gate Park on a warm afternoon. And of course, I’m always pondering where I’ll be traveling next!
- Favorite publication to read: Refinery29, 7×7, and Eater
- Advice to those who want to be in PR: Work several different internships and attend as many networking events as possible. The skills you earn from your internship are invaluable, and the more connections you make with people the better. You never know who you are going to meet!
