Newsletters the Ellipses Team Cannot Live Without

Working in PR and social media management, it is crucial to stay on top of trends, global events, local happenings, and industry changes. It is also vital to understand what writers are writing about and how you can best utilize this information to pitch your clients. We rely a lot on newsletters to give us easy snapshots of what is going on.

Here at Ellipses, we do A LOT of reading, and no matter how busy we may get there is always time dedicated to daily newsletters. Here is a list of some of our favorite newsletters that help us stay in the know.

Adrienne

  • New York Times: What to Cook This Week: A ridiculous number of recipes around a theme that’s often seasonal and sometimes political or cultural. Compiled by Sam Sifton, it’s unfussy and conversational.
  • LA Times: Today’s Headlines: Great daily round-up of stories from LA Times editor-in-chief Davan Maharaj.
  • Ozy News: The Presidential Daily Brief: What you need to know about today’s news in an easy, digestible form with links to the original news sources.
  • Thrillist: Thrillist headlines are so darned clickable, even if the stories don’t always fulfill their promise.

Evita

  • theSkimm: Short, sweet and to the point. I can take five minutes first thing in the morning and get the scoop on the biggest headlines.
  • Eater: I love their stories and their headlines are hilarious.
  • Above the Bottom Line: A friend of a family friend, Nikita Mitchell, has a super fun, witty newsletter about how the world’s most influential companies are taking a stance on issues of the day.

Amanda

  • Social Media Today: If you want to know what’s happening in the social media world, this is by far my favorite daily newsletters.
  • Meet Edgar: I also read almost everything that Meet Edgar posts in their newsletters. I think they post insightful, relevant, and useful articles. I look forward to their newsletters hitting my inbox.
  • WTFJHT: I read this newsletter every single day from top to bottom, because as much as it pains me to stay informed about what is going on with our current administration, I know I need to. I think it does a great job at summarizing all that’s happening in one daily email.

Diana

  • Food & Tech Connect “Food + Tech Bytes”: I read this excellent newsletter regularly for updates on what’s happening in the world of food and technology – whether it’s huge news like Amazon purchasing Whole Foods to small start-ups trying to invent new food products.
  • Chefs + Tech from Skift: This newsletter covers similar ground as “Food + Tech Bytes,” but from the restaurant and chef perspective with deeper dives and analysis.
  • PR Daily News Feed: This one is a go-to, must-read for anyone working in PR – whether at an agency or in-house.
  • Muck Rack Daily: This newsletter offers an entertaining round-up of what the media are saying about the news of the day.

  • Adweek: Adweek showcases what some of the biggest, most innovative companies are creating on a daily basis. It is a great way to get your creative juices flowing, and be inspired by the stories.
  • Social Media Examiner: Social Media Examiner gives consumers a snapshot into the ever-changing world of social media. It provides tutorials, information on industry changes and the future of social media. It is an excellent resource to remain on top of everything social related!
