THE GASTROPIG EXPANDS MENU OFFERINGS, BRINGS OUTDOORS IN
Popular uptown Oakland breakfast sandwich spot adds new menu items,
as well as new salads, espresso drinks and lots of fresh air
Oakland, Calif. – August 23, 2017 – The Gastropig (TGP), a sandwich spot in the heart of Uptown, has expanded its menu to include hot sandwiches every day of the week, as well as seasonal items, freshly prepared salads, and espresso drinks.
The restaurant also installed accordion windows across the entire front section of the restaurant—bringing fresh breezes in and making TGP a perfect breakfast, brunch and lunch destination for the Bay Area’s warm and fogless fall months.
TGP’s newest offering is a seasonal BLT (bacon, lettuce and heirloom tomato) on toasted sourdough bread, which can also be ordered with avocado. Other new daily menu items are the Meatball Sub with housemade meatballs and three cheeses; Porchetta Sandwich with Italian salsa verde on rosemary ciabatta; Killer Cubano; and BBQ Pulled Pork. The Burger—plain or piled high with bacon, avocado and egg—shifts from being a Monday-only special to a regular fixture on the menu. All sandwiches are served with a choice of house-made macaroni salad or mixed green salad.
Three new seasonal salads on the menu include Cobb Salad with grilled chicken, bacon, and blue cheese with creamy cilantro dressing; Chicken Citrus Salad with pistachios and cilantro citrus vinaigrette; and Kale Caesar Salad with pepitos and a hard boiled boiled egg. A Breakfast Burrito made with egg, bacon, home fries, salsa and cheese is available on weekdays.
Despite an affection for pork products, TGP offers a plethora of vegetarian options, including fresh-made, pull-apart waffle iron hashbrowns with cheddar and scallions, house-made salads, grilled cheese on toasted sourdough, tomato soup, and avocado toast with cilantro crema.
For dessert, there’s Monkey Bread, a house-made hunk of warm brioche bread pudding drizzled with toffee sauce, in addition to chewy chocolate chip cookies and chocolate chip bacon cookies.
TGP’s most popular menu item is the Baconlover, an applewood smoked bacon sandwich with an over easy egg, cheddar cheese, and Aleppo chili aioli served on a brioche roll. Another perennial TGP favorite is its chunky-peanut-butter-and-
