KAHNFECTIONS ADDS PLAYFUL MIX OF SPRING HOLIDAY GOODIES TO THE PASTRY CASE
Mission District neighborhood bakery gives customers reason to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day and Easter with whimsical baked goods
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – March 6, 2018 – Kahnfections, a neighborhood bakery café in the Mission District serving classic French pastries, old-school American desserts and fun, seasonally inspired treats, has unwrapped its plans for Saint Patrick’s Day and Easter. From boozy Saint Patrick’s Day cupcakes to charming Easter “nests,” there’s something playfully delicious for everyone.
Saint Patrick’s Day baked goods will be available beginning March 10 and until they are sold out on March 17. Among the many Irish-themed offerings are classic Irish soda bread made with raisins ($6/boule and $3/individual), Irish whiskey bread pudding ($3.50/single portion), festive macarons flavored with Irish whiskey or Baileys buttercream ($2 each), Irish whiskey truffles ($1 each) and Irish whiskey cupcakes, which are a riff on the whiskey-beer-and-Baileys cocktail known as the Irish Slammer. These super moist chocolate cupcakes are made with Guinness beer, filled with Irish whiskey ganache and topped with Baileys buttercream ($1.75 each).
A selection of Easter-themed treats will hit the pastry case for carry-out on Easter, April 1, with pre-orders available the week preceding the holiday. Among the offerings are traditional Lenten hot cross buns ($3 each), coconut macaroon “nests” with candy eggs ($1.50 each), and slices of the bakery’s popular three-layer carrot cake ($5/slice). Pastel-hued macarons in assorted flavors ($2 each) will be available Easter weekend. Customers may pre-order hot cross buns, macaroons and full-sized carrot cakes with at least 72 hours notice.
In addition to baking up seasonal treats, Kahnfections prepares a large assortment of house-made traditional and old-school pastries, muffins, quick breads, cookies and bars every day, ranging in price from $2.50 to $5. This cozy bakery café, which is popular among neighborhood locals, bicyclists and four-footed friends who enjoy bakery-made dog biscuits, also serves hot biscuit sandwiches that guests can customize by selecting any type of biscuit and their choice of fillings and condiments. Customers will also find a rotating weekly menu of house-made vegetarian or vegan soup (weekdays only), salads to-go, and granola parfaits.
About Kahnfections
After graduating from Tante Marie’s Cooking School in San Francisco, Judy Kahn interned with pastry chef Mutsumi Takehara. Working alongside Takehara for the next three years, Kahn helped design the menu for the now-shuttered Sandbox Bakery. When Kahn was ready to strike out on her own, she opened a commercial kitchen, but she always envisioned a brick-and-mortar location. Kahnfections opened at the Mission District location in May 2017. Judy Kahn is joined by her husband, Mark Kahn, who helps run operations.
Kahnfections is located at 3321 20th Street in San Francisco, and is open Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and weekends 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Freshly made pastries from Kahnfections can also be found at Pinhole Coffee in Bernal Heights and the café at Covo SF in SoMa.
